SHORT FILM – JUST £25

Our company believes passionately that short films are a gateway to a career in the industry. We both graduated from self-funded shorts and have been selected for prestigious film awards throughout Europe including The BBC Talent Award, Clermont Ferrand, Oberhausen, The 48 hour Film Challenge, BAFTA Cymru and many more.

We sit on judging panels throughout the UK and can give you the inside edge on what judges are looking for (and what they’re not…), making the best of low budgets and, most importantly, how to make your script the very best it can be.

DEVELOPMENT –  JUST £50

This is our cornerstone feature film service, but one that’s often overlooked. We can save you months of wasted work on a screenplay by helping you structure your story correctly. For £50 you get the information you need to deliver an elegantly structured treatment and logline that will make writing your screenplay an absolute pleasure.

If you’re applying for development finance for the first time, or if you’ve been rejected and are reapplying, our guidance will help your script stand out from the thousands of other projects you’re competing with.

Send us: your logline (fifty words max story outline) and a five page treatment.

These are the essential elements that will get your script written and out into the decision makers hands. We will evaluate your work and share the secrets we’ve learnt over the years to improve your chance of success.

For £50 you will get: detailed notes on how to improve your logline and treatment from us both and a one hour conference call where we’ll guide you through our suggestions.

THE SCREENPLAY –  JUST £75

Most top production companies and film funds will require a writing sample before they will read your entire script. They often request the first 30 pages of the screenplay you’re submitting or your best screenplay to date (of which they’ll often read under 30 pages).

These first thirty pages can make or break your chances of attracting a strong producer or receiving the funding that you’ve worked so hard for

For only £75 we will evaluate the first 30 pages of your screenplay, provide you with a written step by step guide for improving your whole draft and discuss our ideas and strategy over a one hour conference call. We will help you tell your story to the best of your abilities and ensure that you have the best chance of success.

FINAL DRAFT –  JUST £125

We all get one chance to make a great first impression.

Once you have a screenplay that you feel is almost ready to be sent out we offer a service to ensure that it’s market ready. Amateur writers tend to mail out their screenplays as soon as they’ve finished them and a lot of hard work can quickly turn to disappointment. Professionals get as much well-qualified feedback as they can to make sure the draft is ready for the people who make big decisions.

For only £125 you will receive detailed notes on your entire screenplay from either Caradog or John explaining where the draft could be improved and further written notes on your treatment and logline. Both of them will talk you through the notes and provide fresh ideas during a one hour conference call.

The project should be sent with a logline and a five page treatment of the project to ensure you get the maximum value. Screenplays should be 125 pages maximum and £1 per additional page will be charged thereafter.

THE HOT HOUSE  JUST £1250

An exclusive 2 day workshop with Caradog and John in person

We will read your current draft or outline and make detailed notes. Then, over the two day workshop, we’ll make sure you deliver the very best version of the story that you want to write.

Ten days after receiving the completed draft you’ll get a further set of detailed notes on areas to consider when finishing your rewrite or polish. At any time within three months of your workshop you’ll also receive an additional scheduled one hour ‘emergency call’.

You’ll have access to every lesson we’ve ever learned to write your brilliant screenplay.

The Hot House is also strongly recommended for projects about to go into production, and we advise that writers and directors attend the sessions together. So many low budget features fail because the filmmakers have huge visual talent but poor storytelling skills – The Hot House will ensure this doesn’t happen to you.

Payment is segmented into three payments. First payment on receipt of your current draft or outline (35%). Second payment before day one of the three day session (50%). Third payment on receipt of the new draft (15%).

We’re happy to provide suggestions for local accommodation – your accommodation/travel costs are not included in the course fee.

If you wish for John and Caradog to travel to you a £50.00 per diem, business class travel, accommodation, an agreed course venue and £250.00 P/P for travel days should be added to The Hot House fee.
